Civil wars are raging in many regions, accompanied by the collapse of social order, refugee crises, and often famine. These crises entail unimaginable human suffering, yet they also stir a spiritual hunger in people. For Arabic-speaking refugees in South Sudan’s camps, we commissioned the printing of 10,000 New Testaments, which were distributed within a few weeks through the “Local Church Priority” initiative. We are currently planning to print and ship another 20,000 copies. Additionally, once the translation of the New Testament into the Dinka Malual language is complete, we will send another 20,000 copies to South Sudan. A challenge there is that many older people suffer from farsightedness and lack reading glasses; consequently, our printing partner, BasseDruck, has suggested equipping about 10,000 of the New Testaments with a built-in magnifying lens.
We arrange printing in many languages to supply our affiliated mission partners with the Word of God. We were able to provide the “Werde Licht” (Be Light) evangelism movement with an Aramaic New Testament featuring Aramaic script on one side and Latin script on the other. We also supplied the brethren there with Turkish New Testaments. Print orders have been placed for New Testaments in Chechen, Bengali, Greek, Kurdish, Urdu, and other languages.
Many of these New Testaments are also used to bring the Word of God to refugees in Athens, where two brothers minister to those facing spiritual and material hardship. We would be happy to provide information on further projects as well—such as children’s Bibles in various languages and audio Bibles designed to address illiteracy.
